Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.
  5. Add the mashed bananas and mix until well combined.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.

For the Frosting:

  1. In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth and creamy.
  2. Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Add the vanilla extract and heavy cream (if using), and beat until light and fluffy.
  4. Once the cake is completely cooled, spread the cream cheese frosting evenly over the top.
